RECEPTION

“With patience and intelligence in a hostile environment, Kamar knew how to stay at the good distance of the people he filmed to build a humanist movie, in the tradition of the feature length documentary narratives. ‘Are You Listening!’ is a visual symphony and an ode to life.” – International Jury citation awarding Grand Prix in Cinéma du réel

“Careful, patient and respectful observation- bordering on meditation, almost – brings us closer to a certain struggle, ending in the triumph of solidarity and an affirmation of the unbreakable in human spirit. Moments of exquisite beauty punctuate the film as its long-term commitment to the people filmed affirms the extraordinary power of concerted labour, as well as the fragile lives of individuals with their daily joys and fears. Living on the outpost, as yet another natural assault threatens to engulf them, the world can ignore them at its own pril” – Jury citation awarding Golden Conch in MIFF

“An exquisite eye for both detail and panorama, for both human face and vistas of muddy waters, immerses the viewer completely as it confronts what could only be called a “terrible beauty.” – Jury citation for Best Cinematography in MIFF
